OSCAR NIGHT OPEN THREAD

I really hope that you folks in LA have internet access during the show, and that Kate will be able to join us from her hotel room in Atlanta. Otherwise Mike and I will just be passing the laptop back and forth all night, which I guess is a little weird.

I don't anticipate a whole lot of surprises tonight, award-wise (a BROKEBACK BACKLASH? Methinks not.) But I am excited to see Jon Stewart strut his stuff on such a big stage. He's such a smart, classy, dorky-sexy guy. I hope he has a huge night and that the Hollywood types give him the warm reception he deserves.

Nice job by Clooney, but Jon Stewart is making a dog's dinner of this - he's shanking terribly. I had a much higher expectation.

Well, it's 8:55 and this shit has been pretty dull so far, and I agree that Stewart seems out of his element. He seems to miss having the graphics over his shoulder to make jokes about and react to. Too bad. I still love him, though.

OH MY GOD. That shit with Lauren Bacall was really scary/sad. What the hell is wrong with this show? Why does it suck so much???

I hope someone does something outlandish soon just to shake things up. I'm really disappointed so far.

OK, the bit with the fake campaign ads for the actresses was funny, thanks to Steven Colbert's hysterical voice-over work.

Now, what is up with Charlize Theron's dress? What is that thing on her shoulder?

I wish this was on delay here so it would start and end so late that I couldn't possibly watch it. Ans yet, it's like a car wreck - I can't not watch - ugh!!!

OK, the business with the performance of "It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp" was totally ridiculous. CAN'T THESE PEOPLE DO ANYTHING RIGHT?? The fact that they changed "bitches" to "witches" was insane. But it was great seeing those guys win the Oscar - love the Phillies hat, and they actually brought a wiff of real humanity to this otherwise totally STERILE AND LIFELESS NIGHT. SHOOT ME NOW!

i'm a bit late to posting, but i was actually working while watching on sunday night. grim. but hey, the work was actually welcome as this was SUPER BORING.

the set looked like scarface's bedroom - cheap and tacky like a beach house rental - and poor jon stewart. i love him, but it was not his best night ever.

after clooney won, the show went majorly downhill..ew.
