SWEET JANE
We continued our BLEAK HOUSE detox last night with a good-sized helping of Ang Lee's lovely SENSE AND SENSIBILITY, airing on TCM's wonderful 31 Days of Oscar schedule. We didn't see the whole thing, but enough to be reminded of what a gorgeous and clever adaptation this is. Bravo for Emma for putting the words on paper - and winning a much-deserved Academy Award in the process - and for all of the fabulous actors. Can you name me a more dashing hero than Alan Rickman's Colonel Brandon? I don't think so.

Hey- I caught glimpses of this, too. This movie is simply one of the most perfect movies ever. The Patrick Doyle score, the Vermeer-esque cinematography, the actors, the costuming - yum. Favorite scene: the breakdown Eleanor has when she realizes that Edward is not married. Hilarious. (plus, this is where Emma met her love, Gregg Wise. has to share the goss)
Also caught fabulous Emma in THE REMAINS OF THE DAY earlier in the evening on the excellent TCM channel.
Emma is really one of my absolute favorite people EVER in the movies. I adore her. Couldn't quite bring myself to go see NANNY McPHEE, though.
It does seem like it's been a long time since she had a starring role in a serious adult movie. what's up with that?
Can you translate "share the goss?"
Kind of funny that she fell for Willoughby. What a horrible character!
the goss - the gossip.
Good point about the adult movies. I think she adapted NANNY MCPHEE, too, from the original book - perhaps she wants to make films for her daughter.
Yes, Willoughby is quite the cad, a la Wickham and the other Austen "bad guys." Gregg Wise was the perfect foil, though, for Alan Rickman, and that's hard to be, given Alan's incredible presence.
